Why Carob Products

Carobs are an immensely rich source of food and they might be the ideal “survival food” considering that they lasts for a long period of time, they don’t require any special storage conditions and they can be consumed without any preparations. They are highly beneficial for our health because they contain calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, silicon, and vitamins A, B1, B2 and D. Carobs contain about 4% protein and 76% carbohydrate.

 

Carobs are rich in calcium; they contain 350mg per 100gr in comparison to milk that contains only 120 to 130mg per 100gr. Moreover, carobs don’t contain oxalic acid, like chocolate, which tends to decrease the body’s capacity to absorb calcium. Even though carobs are very sweet, they have 60% less calories than chocolate.

They are rich in fiber, helping thus in the proper function of the bowel and soothing the stomach.  They have antioxidant properties, thanks to their high content of fiber, polyphenols and tannins and they also have anticancer effects. 

In general, carobs’ nutritional values ​​can be included in food, as an ingredient in food, pharmaceutical products, cosmetics and animal food. It is also widely used as a thickening and stabilizing agent in baby food, bread, cereals, dairy products, beverages, cosmetics, glues and paints.

 

They are used for the prevention and treatment of dysentery in people. They help in treating asthma and soothe coughs and colds. In addition carobs help to increase libido and sperm count. They don’t contain gluten, which means they can be consumed by those who suffer from celiac disease. Additionally, in case someone is on a diet they are ideal since they contain no fat.
